It Seemed Like a Good Idea

Growing up in the mean streets of Oakland I did a lot of dumb things. I got into trouble on many occasions, and it is a miracle that I was never arrested or seriously injured. By the grace of God I survived my youth and slowly began to make better decisions. Eventually I became the “mature” and sophisticated person you now know.
The good thing about growing up in the era I did was that I was able to do dumb things in private. I only had to worry about the wrath of my parents…..when I got caught and my conscience…….when I developed one. Now kids today are no different than when I was growing up. They still do dumb things but when they do it is broadcast on YouTube for the world to mock them.
Everyone but this kid can see what is going to happen from a mile away. Ask the kid what he was thinking and he will say “I don’t know” or “It seemed like a good idea at the time”. Kids don’t change but technology does. If this had happened to me back in the day and it could have, it would have only been in front of several friends. Sure they would have told everyone at school, but I would have denied it. Now the evidence is on YouTube. So far over 11,000 people have viewed it and it will stay on the Net forever. Poor kid. I’m glad I was a dumb kid in a different era.
